Right, now were going to assume you have been following my advice in the previous article "Facebook marketing-List Building For Free-Part 1". If you have not read that then I recommend you do before implimenting the following advice. So for those of you who have read the previous article you should now be targeting and befriending lots of great people using FaceBook groups and they are happily accepting your invitation because they love your friendly message, your great profile page and they want to be associated with you.
What we do now is start posting lots of great information (Value) on your FB page about the subject/business you are involved in and they are interested in learning more about. Remember your initial message stated “I would love to share knowledge with you on this subject” . When you post these messages all of your friends (lists) will see them and then start to see that you are worth being associated with.
Taking me again as an example. I will always give out free advice, help etc about making money online, be it marketing, building websites, affiliate marketing or any great information I may come across as I go through my day. I do this because I want these people to trust me, I want them to see I am an authority on this subject and I want them to be eager to read my messages that I put out on FaceBook. These can also be messages you are putting on ythe walls of the FB groups you have joined as well. These people will most definitely be looking for answers even if they don’t know it yet, and you can be their solution.
The 80/20 Rule
When I do the part of placing messages on my FB wall or other groups walls, I do it with the 80/20 rule in mind. That is I give my FB lists great value and excellent free information 80% of the time and for the other 20% of the time, yep thats right, I sell them something or I pitch them a business im involved in. These could be products or sevices you have on your website etc or anywhere else for that matter. Just make sure what your selling/promoting is congruant with what your FB friends are interested in. Remember you use the 20% part to make your money with.
The free information you are giving away could be an article on your website or one you have seen online. The thing is to make sure its of value, something they can use. What your doing here is building up trust. People will think that if your free stuff is this great then what must his/her paid stuff be like.
Most people get this 80/20 part wrong and do it in reverse. In fact virtually everyone I come across does this bit wrong. They sell 80% of the time and if were very lucky they give us some value just 20% of the time. And normally this great value is of no value at all. What you will find happens here in this scenario is that the reader, your potential customer who you are building a relationship with just gets bored of your constant selling and pitching, meaning that eventually they never even bother to look at your messages and of course they will just take you off their friend list at some point or even worse report you to FB for spamming. So do yourself a favour and do the 80/20 rule the right way round.
One Last Tip
What we can also do now that you have targeted friends who will also be posting their own messages, is scroll down your FB home page ( wall) and answer any messages you see that are of interest to you by putting comments in there, perhaps giving advice or information etc, because remember these people will have been been targeted so they are very likely going to be talking about stuff you have answers for. You could also leave them your website or blog link or tell them you can help in some way or recommend some help..
In Closing
So there you go, you now know of a very effective way of list building for free and using FaceBook for marketing. When used correctly and with total respect for FB and its rules as well as the people using FB, you can build a very loyal and targeted group of people who, without them really knowing, can become your customers for a long time to come.
